Fonkoze
Fonkoze is Haiti’s alternative bank for the organized poor. In fact, it is a family of three institutions working together shoulder-to-shoulder towards a single compelling mission: building the economic foundations for democracy in Haiti by providing the rural poor with the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty. This mission is reflected in their name, Fonkoze, which is an acronym for the Haitian Creole phrase “Fondasyon Kole Zepòl” meaning “Shoulder-to-Shoulder Foundation.”

The Memory Project
Founded by Ben Schumaker in October, 2004 The Memory Project's mission is to create social and humanitarian change through the use of artwork. By spreading awareness of human rights issues, raising support for charitable organizations, and providing heartfelt gifts to victims of social injustice, those involved strive to work for a more compassionate and dedicated society. One of Ben's first major projects was providing portraits for each of the children living at the orphanage. This not only helped each of the art students involved become more aware of the situation in Haiti (and other countries), but also provided each of our children with a keepsake to call their own.
